History of the College
Kpembe Nursing and Midwifery Training College is a premier tertiary institution dedicated to excellence in Nursing and midwifery education. Founded in 2008, Kpembe Nursing and Midwifery Training College has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the leading institutions in nurturing the next generation of nurses and midwives.
Our Mission asserts, “To Produce Nurses and Midwives who are Highly Skilled, Competent, and Practically-Oriented to Serve Humanity.” Our journey began fueled by the Vision; “To Become a Center of Excellence in the Training of Nurses and Midwives.”
A key characteristic of an educational institution is the attainment of accreditation from the appropriate institutions. In line with this, Kpembe Nursing and Midwifery Training College has well-established institutional and programme accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (G-TEC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. This noble institution is located in Kpembe, a community that is located 2 kilometers away from the East Gonja Municipal Capital, Salaga, in the Savannah Region. It is situated on a walled 50-acre land with a 99-year lease with a studding of rich and well-designed array of notable infrastructure that aids in various activities for the dissemination of quality healthcare education.
The institution formally started and grew from being a Health Assistance Training School, providing training in only the Health Assistance, Clinical (NAC) programme to its current state of inclusion of higher nursing and midwifery programmes. Later in the year 2012, Post-NAC/NAP Midwifery was introduced, and in 2013 and 2014, diploma in nursing and diploma in Midwifery were introduced, respectively. Currently, this institution has started running accredited B. Sc. programmes in General Nursing and Public health Nursing. The diploma and Degree programmes are affiliated to KNUST and UCC, respectively, placing among the first set of institutions in Ghana to run full-time BSc Nursing and BSc Public Health Nursing programmes. The school community is vibrant and diverse. With many of the staff being MPhil. and MSc. holders in various disciplines that contribute to effective nursing and midwifery training, the college is a melting pot of cultures, ideas, and aspirations, united by a shared goal of making a difference in the healthcare system.
The college campus is home to state-of-the-art facilities designed for excellence. From fifteen (15) modern lecture halls equipped with 5 interactive boards to two (2) advanced simulation labs, a well-stocked library, 8 female hostels, 6 male hostels, a 16-bed capacity infirmary which is accredited by the National Health Insurance Authority, an ultra-modern ICT lab, a 2000-seater capacity ultra-view auditorium, water treatment plant for the production of potable sachet water, and 4 mechanized boreholes. With these infrastructural establishments, every corner of the campus fosters growth and innovation in health education.
